BY OGOVA ONDEGO. NAIROBI, KENYA (CINEMA MINIMA) — On June 16 — the Day of the African Child — the Lola Kenya Screen announced the lineup for its fourth annual showcase of films for children and youth. The film festival — billed as an audiovisual media initiative for children and youth — will run 2009 August 10–15 at the Goethe-Institut in Nairobi.

315 films in 33 languages from 50 nations were received.

To give better visibility to the films which have been selected, screenings have been organized into nine categories. For competition categories, Lola Kenya Screen showcases the best recent — up to 32 months — international films for children and youth.

For 2009, a new category — 14 Plus — has been introduced into competition. Previously, only films for 6–13-year-olds had competed for the Lola Kenya Screen Golden Mboni Award for the best children’s film.
